Graphic designers use not just their minds in designing logos, icons, pictures and a lot more promotional materials. In this article, we will tackle on other factors that affect the creativity of graphic designers.
1. Lack of Funds
In establishing a business, low capital for investment will affect the decision on whether to continue putting up the enterprise or stop it altogether and just build an alternative one that can be supported with lower costs and resources. Likewise in creating graphic designs, when designers come up with awesome ideas but lack the funds to materialize them to reality, the attention suddenly is geared towards searching for alternatives or forgetting the piece of work. Their minds will be filled with anxieties, with insufficient budget to express their freedom.
Being a graphic designer requires one to be creative and keep on thinking inventive ideas to wow their clients. The tendency is to always research for latest designs, going hither and tither to look for inspiration, and consult with plenty of reading resources to keep up with evolving design news and incorporate them with their assignment. Even if they are just sitting on a chair in an empty room or lying down their bed, their minds are filled with endless and complex abstract and vivid colors and designs, making them all stressed out. When they fill their brains with this much pressure, they are not aware but they are also killing the creativity in them. To overcome this problem, they should have a regular rest time and space without thinking about work once in a while or whenever needed.
The world is full of people’s comments, criticisms and negative feedback more than positive. Most of the time, the wrong is often remembered and instilled in our minds than the right. When faced with critiques, graphic designers might get them too personal therefore affecting their self-esteem as well. When they hear harsh words, they might be too upset that they’re going to discontinue work. When their confidence is dampened, their production might not be as good as what it should. When they fear failure and another disappointment to come along their way, they will find working on graphic designs more difficult this time around as they think they should serve all sorts of people’s satisfaction to not hear any negative response.
Deadlines are important to meet. Graphic designers who suffer from procrastination, which is the bad habit of delaying work, often suffer also from having a “designer’s block” and the fear later of falling short on their deadlines. When the graphic designer is overconfident or is just too lazy to start or continue doing the job at hand, concentration is not present, the thought-process becomes freer and longer, and the creativity might die in one of the in-between instances. On the other hand, when they end up rushing to finish their work, they pass off a substandard or poor design or even worse, copy from another designer’s work (plagiarize). The consequence is that they will fail to delight clients, causing of the end of their relationship/contract.
5. Personal issues
Personal issues may range from trivial to serious ones. Of course, a graphic designer is also a human being who in the normal state becomes affected badly when they are beset with problems—whether it be because of family problems, low financial situations, no drive in life, fight with friends, etc. When they feel frustrated, they can’t think on the core design of what they are supposed to accomplish and thus reduce the level of their conscious creativity. They should either consider going to counseling, consulting with an elderly adviser, mentor, psychologist and friends who can help them be back to a sound mind and happy surrounding. Else, efficiency in work will be paralyzed and sacrificed. There are many other factors that stifle the successes of graphic designers and crush their creativity. What they can do is to practice to ignore these disturbances that affect them adversely and focus on the path of victory. If they strive to be a big winner, despite sometimes paved with failure, their creative force will prevail.
